Gemological info: Jasper is a volcanic stone primarily composed of microcrystalline Quartz.
It is also believed to be a Stromatolite which is a microbial reef produced by photosynthetic
Cyanobacteria 3 billion years ago. Its distinct colour patterns are reminiscent of an alligator’s
skin which is why the stone is also called Alligator Jasper.
